La palmera canaria (Phoenix canariensis) es una planta exclusiva de nuestro Archipielago. Se caracteriza por su tronco recto, que puede llegar a medir hasta 15 o 20 metros de altura,
en cuyo extremo se encuentran reunidas abundantes hojas que en conjunto forman una densa copa esferica de
color verde oscuro. Estas hojas son de gran tama±o (5-6 m de largo), divididas, y al caer dejan sobre el tronco unas tipicas cicatrices en forma de rombos achatados que lo recubren completamente. Una curiosidad de la palmera es que existen individuos masculinos y femeninos. Los primeros presentan unas inflorescencias de numerosisimas flores de color crema protegidas por una especie de gran vaina. Los segundos poseen las flores sobre tallos ramificados. Los frutos, llamados popularmente datiles o tamaras, son unas drupas de unos 2 centi­metros de largo que al madurar adquieren un bello color amarillo- anaranjado.
La palmera canaria es una especie que no resiste bien el frio, creciendo en las zonas bajas de las Islas, preferentemente por debajo de los 500 - 600 metros de altitud. Aun en la actualidad, y a pesar de que fue mas abundante en tiempos pasados como - por otra parte lo atestigua la variada toponimia local, se pueden encontrar magni­ficos palmerales naturales y seminaturales en barrancos y laderas de las Islas.

The canary palm (Phoenix canariensis) is an exclusive plant of our Archipelago. It is characterized by his straight trunk, that can get to measure up to 15 or 20 meters of height, in whose end are reunited abundant leaves that altogether form a dense spherical glass of dark green color. These leaves are of great size (5-6 m of length), divided, and when falling they leave on the trunk tipicas scars in form of flattened rhombuses that cover it completely. A curiosity of the palm is that they exist individual masculine and feminine. First flowers of color cream protected by a species of great case present/display inflorescencias of numerosisimas. The seconds have the flowers on graft stems. The fruits, popularly datiles calls or tamaras, are drupas of about 2 centimeters in length that when maturing acquire a beautiful orange yellow color. The canary palm is a species that does not resist the cold one well, growing in the low zones of the Islands, preferredly below the 500 - 600 meters of altitude. Die zitronengelbe Palme (Phoenixcanariensis) ist ein exklusiver Betrieb von unserem Archipelago. Die zitronengelbe Palme ist eine Sorte, die nicht dem kalten gut widersteht und wächst in den niedrigen Zon
